Frequently Asked Questions:

If you are thinking about having a spray tan and you want to get a head start on that sun kissed and bronzed look in your swimsuit then you may want to find out a little bit more about it first. We have put together this short list of just some of the most commonly asked questions so that you can start your learning about it and go from there so please read on.

How long does the tanned look last for?
It is on average anything from five to seven days depending on the product itself and your lifestyle too. It will fade quicker if you swim, bathe or shower every day. Moisturizing the skin also helps it to last longer too.

Is there any reason why I should not have a spray tan?
It is not recommended that you have a spray tan if you are pregnant or you have any breathing problems such as asthma. Masks can be supplied but you will need to discuss this with the supplier or beautician who will be carrying out the spray tan on you.

How long does it take to do?
The tanning process itself should not take any more than fifteen minutes and the setting up should be around ten minutes so you can easily be done in half a hour.

How does spray tanning work?
The tanning products contain an active ingredient called DHA. When this is applied to the skin it reacts with the amino acids in the skin. The oxygen within the air then causes the skin to turn a bronze colour.

More Information & Articles:

Spray tanning is a superficial procedure where DHA (dihydroxyacetone) is sprayed in the form of a mist onto the surface of the skin, causing a chemical effect which momentarily creates the look of being tanned.

If used correctly, it can produce a tan effect and can be applied at home or in a salon. Spray tanning is thought to be safer than conventional tanning methods and requires no harmful sun exposure. However, certain individuals may experience an allergic reaction to spray tan chemicals.

Dihydroxyacetone — the main component of most spray tanning products causes a reaction when it is applied which makes the outer layer of the skin to become darker or have a tanned look. One hour following the application of the tanning spray, this transformation usually becomes noticeable. The tan slowly fades as the dead layers of skin are shed anywhere from four days to ten.

You can have spray tan applied at a salon or at home. Spray that can be used in the home, tend to be more cost effective whilst giving the user the freedom of using the product whenever they want in order to get the preferred shade and is usually sold in pump or aerosol bottles., However, uneven tan, brown streaks on the neck, palm, and elbows may result if incorrectly applied.

Booth tanning and Airbrushing are the two main methods used by certified spray tanning salons. A tanning specialist uses a spray gun to give an airbrush tan. Persons stand up in a booth that has been customized with atomizers that dispense the solution in booth tanning, and they spray a tanning solution in a mist which covers the exposed skin surface.

Getting a professional spray tan can be costly, although it results in a more natural tan than that of home spray tanning solutions.

Spray tanning has been noted to be the safer alternative to conventional tanning methods as it requires zero exposure to the harmful rays of the sun.

To conclude, spray tan solutions can cause allergic reactions as some persons experience rashes and skin irritation following exposure to the product. It is suggested that persons testing new spray tan items begin by applying the product to a tiny area of skin to test for possible allergic reactions. The individual can then put on the solution on the remainder of the skin once no allergic reaction is experienced after 24 hours.
