A new beauty salon aims to boost its appeal by selling handmade dresses on site.

Two beauty training graduates have been hired to help bring a salon with a difference to Hartlepool.

The Peterlee Mail reports how 26-year-old designer Vikki Ryan has launched the new Vikki Ryan Salon and Boutique, which aims to provide women with everything they need to look good all in one place.

Ladies will not only be able to have their hair, nails and fake tan taken care of at the venue, but can also browse handmade, one-of-a-kind clothing made by the proprietor. “There’s nothing like it in town, nothing with everything under one roof.

“I’m really lucky to be able to set up this business despite the current unemployment situation,” Ms Ryan stated. Joining her in the new venture is hairdresser Katrena Parkinson and beautician Chani Nicholson.

The news comes after Bourne Local recently reported that Alison and Mario Russo are looking to higher nine new members of staff ahead of the unveiling of their new high-end beauty therapy centre.

The nominations for the Achievement in Makeup Oscar have been announced ahead of the 84th Academy Awards.

Among the contenders are makeup artists Nick Dudman, Amanda Knight and Lisa Tomblin for their creations on the set of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II.

Meanwhile, Lynn Johnson, Martial Corneville and Matthew W Mungle have been nominated for their work on Albert Nobbs, in which Glenn Close plays a woman pretending to be a man in 19th-century Ireland.

The final nominees are J Roy Helland and Mark Coulier for The Iron Lady, which stars Meryl Streep as Britain’s first female prime minister Margaret Thatcher.

Last year’s award was taken home by Rick Baker and Dave Elsey for The Wolfman, which beat Adrien Morot for Barney’s Version and Gregory Funk, Yolande Toussieng and Edouard F Henriques for The Way Back.

The 2012 Oscars will take place on Sunday February 26th at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.

Ladies undertaking makeup artistry courses may want to ensure they follow advice on cleaning beauty tools regularly.

In an article for the Boston Globe, writer Rachel Raczka explained how brushes can become clogged with products and natural oils from the skin, which may lead to bacteria causing a spot outbreak.

She recommended subjecting the most commonly used utensils to a weekly deep clean, while “swiping a brush across a makeup remover cloth” after use should help keep bristles dirt-free.

In an interview with KABC-TV Los Angeles, dermatologist Dr Shirley Chi also recently spoke of how cosmetics can easily spread bacteria and should be washed frequently with shampoo.

Another tip from Ms Raczka was to dispose of products once they reach their expiration date, with mascara and eyeliner said to be only
designed to last for three months. Cream shadows can be kept for a year, while foundation should be replaced every six months, it was claimed.

Makeup brushes should undergo weekly deep cleaning, it has been claimed.

It has been claimed women can fight the signs of ageing if they begin a skincare regime from a young age.

Individuals undertaking courses in beauty therapy may find one expert’s tips on how to prevent the signs of ageing helpful.

Founder of the Natural Skincare Company Amanda McGillivray explained how a thorough daily skincare routine is vital to keep the face looking fresh.

She described how cleansers, toners and moisturisers should be used twice a day from an early age.

As ladies get older, it was suggested they need to use creams that contain vitamins A, C and E “to help fight free radicals and keep those unwelcome wrinkles at bay”.

Another tip was to avoid damage from UV-rays by applying sunscreen and “never ever” lying with the face directly in the sun, as pigment changes can be “very ageing”.

Makeup artist for Dior Jamie Coombes recently commented in an interview with the Daily Record how liquid-style natural foundation is the best option for those who want young-looking skin.

Eye makeup is set to move away from “feline stripes” to bold and smoky eyes in 2012, according to one expert.

Dark smoky eyes are set to be a key trend in 2012, news which may be of interest to those undertaking beauty courses.

According to freelance beauty editor of Kissandmakeup.tv Zara Stone Rabinowicz, the look will be popular all-year round with the style lasting throughout summer and winter.

“Eyeliner is going to be black and bold once more, with feline stripes replaced by heavy kohl and smoky eyes and chubby pencils will be more popular than liquid eyeliner,” she commented.

Other popular products will be blemish balms and elaborate nail art, Ms Rabinowicz remarked, explaining magnetised and metallic nail shades will be a key trend with many ladies.

The move towards blemish balms will come as women look to increase their skincare routine through cosmetics that include sun protection
and enriching properties.

Metallic “party nails” were recently highlighted as this season’s must-have look by Daily Telegraph writer Kate Shapland, who noted they were proving popular at catwalk shows.

Individuals undertaking beauty courses may be interested to hear about this season’s must-have nail look.

According to Daily Telegraph writer Kate Shapland, the latest “backstage secret” is the “party nail”.

She recommended recreating the “crystal cave”-themed nails that featured in the recent Alexander McQueen autumn/winter 2011 show.

To achieve the look, professionals need to use a dark-coloured base and then apply “random” brushstrokes in a metallic shade to give the effect they have been dipped.

Ms Shapland described the nail art as “stylish and edgy”, as well as urging ladies to shape their talons so they are of a medium length and oval in shape.

Compared with some other styles, it was suggested this manicure “makes a statement for the right reasons”.

Elaborate nails are a key trend this season, with women opting for dramatic colours, prints and embellishments, such as placing real snakeskin on nails as recently reported by Good Morning America.
