Non surgical cosmetic treatments are becoming more and more popular and not only celebrities but also executives and people who are climbing up the cooperate ladder are opting for non-invasive treatments. So it is not unnatural for a doctor, dentist or a nurse to not think of furthering their knowledge in this line.

Among the top most sorted treatments nowadays are Botox and Dermal Fillers. So it would be a real advantage if you get a cosmetic academy which offers you with a training program to fit your busy schedule. If you are in the medical field and are hoping to develop your skill towards non surgical cosmetic treatment you have decided so at the right time. Unlike in earlier years you can now participate in one day training courses which teach each module within a day.

These academies are run by accredited cosmetic physicians or dermatologist who have years of experience in performing Botox and Dermal Filler treatments to patients. If you are in UK the best way to identify a good cosmetic academy is to check whether it is approved by the British Association of Cosmetic Doctors. Also you can check whether the dermatologist or the cosmetic physician is a member of them. It is important that you get a proper training on Botox and Dermal Fillers through this academy. Facial rejuvenation is a delicate treatment so getting to know the accurate methods can help you attract more patients and have successful treatments as well.

Most of these academies would provide you with the necessary pre-course material, Botox and dermal filler injections. However when it comes to the practice sessions you will have to bring in your own model as the academy would not provide you with a model. But some cosmetic academies might assist you in this situation. Make sure you check about this when you enroll for the training courses. Generally you will have to bear a cost per session from £550-£1000.

The course modules would be broken as; Introductory theory and practical training in the cosmetic use of Botulinum Toxin, Introductory theory and practical training in the cosmetic use of Dermal Fillers, Introductory theory and practical training in the cosmetic use of Botulinum Toxin & Dermal Fillers, Advanced techniques in the cosmetic use of Botulinum Toxin and Advanced techniques in the cosmetic use of Dermal Fillers. The introductory training courses will provide you with the theoretical and practical training on the use of Botox and Dermal Fillers., whereas advance techniques would provide you the knowledge on the usage of non surgical treatments in conjunction with other products and on other medical uses of them.

At the end of each module you would receive a certificate from your cosmetic training academy. Some cosmetic training academies also provide free mentor ship for the first 12 months after you complete the course. There are several cosmetic training institutes that offer these courses. You can do some research and register for a course.
Please make sure that they give you an affordable rate for the selected course and you get value for money.

Why should I go to a Cosmetic Physician for my non surgical cosmetic treatments?

Non surgical cosmetic treatments are becoming popular and with that there are many do it yourself kits which are available in stores as well. How safe these could be is not proven anywhere. The irony about these non surgical cosmetic DIY kits is that most of the treatment methods require a professional to administer them on the patient. So now you might feel the risk in it.

For example if you have got a Botox or a Dermal filler DIY kit and try to do it by yourself, you might end up freezing the wrong muscle in your face or augmenting the wrong muscle which will create a total botch in the treatment. Though it would wear off you will have to put up with it for few months. Then you get the chemical peels. Now these ones you should be really careful, you use the wrong peel you can totally damage your skin.

So the best thing to do is to consult a cosmetic physician for these non surgical cosmetic treatments. When you select a cosmetic physician you should first of all check whether he is qualified and has a lot of experience in performing non surgical cosmetic treatments. If you find a website about his clinic you may well read it before you go and meet him. Sometimes the websites might have a testimonial page where
previous patients would have shared their experiences. By reading them you can gain a bit of confidence about the cosmetic physician you are going to meet.

The cosmetic physician would carefully listen to your issues. He would then decide as to which treatment is most suitable for you. Sometimes he would recommend you to have combined treatments to rejuvenate your face. Depending on the treatment type a skin patch test might be carried out to check whether you have an allergic reaction towards the product. This will make sure that you will not have any adverse side effects. Also with your consent the cosmetic physician would take pre and post treatment photographs of you so that you can clearly see the improvement of the treatments.

Check whether you can channel the same cosmetic physician for follow up sessions so that you can be rest assured that nothing would go wrong with the treatments. Another advantage of consulting a cosmetic physician is that you can clear your doubts about any of the questions you have relating to the treatments. If you are under prescribed medication you can check whether any of the treatments would create an allergic reaction. Then you can decide on when to have the treatments.
Some cosmetic physicians provide a free consultation at the first visit so that you can familiarise with the clinic and get your doubts cleared off.

Most of these non surgical cosmetic treatments are carried out in the cosmetic physician’s office and no medical institute is involved.

But do not forget to check whether the cosmetic clinic is affiliated with a medical institution so that in a rare occasion if you encounter an adverse side effect you could visit the medical institution with the cosmetic physician’s reference.

What inspired you to become a cosmetic doctor?

After completing my medical training at Manchester University in 1999 I qualified as a GP with a special interest in Dermatology and Minor Surgery. I was gaining lots of experience in facial minor surgery, often for skin cancer and therefore really appreciated the facial anatomy, including the importance of discrete scarring and a good cosmetic outcome. I’m quite artistic and a bit of a perfectionist so the leap into facial aesthetic medicine was very natural for me. I would say that I truly love my work and feel very fortunate in that respect.

What is your background in the industry and how are you moving forward?

I have developed over 7 years experience in cosmetic medicine and performed over 6500 cosmetic procedures. In addition to my own cosmetic practice in Cheshire, I have also worked with the UKs largest cosmetic surgery group in Manchester, Liverpool and London. I have recently launched my new company (Cheshire Cosmetic Ltd) which is a Care Quality Commission registered centre offering cosmetic medical services including surgery, laser and cosmetic dentistry. It’s unique because we’ve created a state of the art facility within an NHS site, giving our patients confidence and a truly comprehensive and quality service.

What makes a good cosmetic doctor, in your eyes?

Knowledge, skill and delivery are all essential, but to me it’s really about understanding the patients needs and surpassing their expectations. A good cosmetic doctor will have a strong relationship with their patients and can confidently deliver an outcome which looks natural, sympathetic and youthful. It’s about more than just patient satisfaction for me, I am always striving to delight my patients with excellent results time after time.

What is the typical consultation process in your clinic?

I always allow plenty of time to explore my patient’s cosmetic ideas, concerns and expectations. Most of the time, just listening properly gives me most of the information. Once we have a shared understanding of their unique cosmetic needs it’s easy for me to construct a treatment plan, which takes into consideration the patients timescales and budget. I often ask patients to dig out old photos from when they looked their best. This way I have a clear idea of what I can realistically work towards by correcting skin problems and restoring volume and proportion in the face. This type of bespoke service enables me to deliver precise results to delighted patients.

You are a BACD member – why do you think the association is so important?

We are practising in a relatively unregulated area of medicine. The BACD act as an official body to promote excellence, safety and professional development. A good example of this is the upcoming Diploma of Cosmetic Medicine. It’s not mandatory to be part of the BACD to practice cosmetic medicine. However, membership of the BACD does set a gold standard within the speciality, which I see as being essential.

You treat a lot of celebrity patients – what do you think makes them choose you?

I suppose it’s because I deliver a bespoke personal service and at the end of the day they are delighted with my work. My practice is also very luxurious and discrete which suits the needs of famous people. To be honest, it doesn’t matter whether I’m treating a celebrity or not, I’ll always treat everyone with the same meticulous care and attention.

You offer a wide variety of cosmetic and anti-ageing treatments – what do you consider to be the standout treatment or product of recent years?

I’ve been really impressed with Dermaroller. My approach towards skin regeneration and scar treatment has always been less invasive and more intrinsic. Despite the trend towards strong ablative procedures such as CO2 laser resurfacing and deep peels, I have been a firm believer in the skin as an incredible organ and its capacity to renew. Dermaroller produces thousands of microscopic columns in the skin with minimal trauma and downtime. The natural wound repair mechanism results in tighter, lifted and smoother skin. This has been of great interest to some of my celebrity patients as there is no need to hide away for 2 weeks unlike with deep peels and ablative resurfacing.

What are your top beauty tips for the summer?

There are 5 key elements to an effective anti-aging skincare routine: Glycolic or phytic acid to strip away skin debris and dead cells Hydroquinone 4% to regulate pigmentation Tretinoin 0.05% which improves collagen production Ascorbic acid 10% (Vit C) serum as an anti-oxidant SPF 35 and above to protect the skin from UV damage You can introduce these ingredients to established skincare products or follow a prescribed routine such as the Obagi Nu-Derm System.
