The Botox powder is supplied to the surgeon who reconstitutes it into a saline solution. It is then injected using a disposable syringe with a fine needle. According to many researches by leading medical institutes and Universities, Botox is the fastest growing cosmetic procedure and is the second most common procedure after face peels.

The surgeon will ask some questions about your medical history and make sure you have realistic expectations about the outcome. You may also be asked to sign a consent and disclaimer form. The whole procedure usually takes 15 minutes but no more than half an hour.

The surgeon will sometimes mark with a pen the areas that need injecting. Some will use an EMG machine to tell them the correct place to inject, while others will go straight ahead and inject the sites that they have already agreed with the patient.

You will be asked to frown hard so the surgeon can see the areas to treat. They will then inject the sites (some patients say this resembles an ant sting) and each site is injected very precisely. Anesthetic is not generally required but some surgeons will apply Emla cream to numb the area first, or put ice on before and after.

Many non-surgical treatments can be carried out together as they can complement each other depending on what you are trying to achieve.

How long does Botox treatment last?

The effects can last for 3 to 5 months or sometimes longer depending on the individual. If you like the effects, you will need repeat treatments 2 to 3 times per year. Clinical trials have shown that over time the duration of the effect increases, resulting in less treatments being needed to maintain the result.

Botox Aftercare

It usually takes 2 to 3 days to begin to work, with the full effect being at 7 days.
Use lots of facial expressions to work the Botox into the muscles for the first day.
Do not massage or rub the area as this can cause the toxin to spread beyond the treated area. Do not lie down for four hours after the injections.

Who should not take Botox treatment

During Pregnancy. It is not recommended that pregnant women and those breast feeding use Botox, as there are insufficient trials to show that it does not harm the baby.
Eyelid droop is rare and can last for up to 4 weeks.
Double vision is also rare and can also last for up to 6 months until the effects have worn off. With a skilled surgeon, this is unlikely to happen.
Bruising of the injection site. Taking Arnica can reduce this.
Avoid Botox if there is an existing drooping of the eyelid.
Always disclose current medication at every appointment, particularly antibiotics.
Always declare muscle disorders.

Possible Advantages.

It is thought that Botox can help reduce headaches but this has not yet been proved.

Costs range from £150 to £200 for one treatment area in Botox Cheshire. Charges can be made for each individual injection or for a site, which may need three injections. Ask exactly what you are getting for your money before the treatment starts.

Surgeons are trained in the basic uses of Botox for cosmetic purposes. These are usually the brow and crow’s-feet. The advanced course will include the chin and neck. The more Botox treatments the surgeon undertakes, the more skilled they will become. Ask the surgeon how long he has been treating with Botox and if there is anyone you can speak to about their treatment.

Possible Disadvantages.

A very small percentage of patients are resistant to Botox. Probably because they have unknowingly had a slight bout of botulism leaving them with antibodies to it.
Some patients will have to go back for a top-up treatment if the treatment has not worked. It is better to start with a smaller amount and then increase to a larger dose, than to give too high a dose in the first instance.

Skin is the outer layer that covers the body. It is the largest organ of the integument system made up of multiple layers and guards the underlying muscles, bones and internal organs. As we reach the thirties in our life our skin also tend to lose its shininess and good look. However, none of us would like to have old and unpleasant skin even when we get older. We would love to look as young as we could even at an older age.

Unfortunately, for a number of reasons including aging we are unable to protect our skins best look. But we can protect our skin if we give enough attention and care.

Apart from the aging factor, direct sunlight, chemicals and various toxins affect our skin as well. Due to the sensitiveness of our skin we may also encounter various reactions which may result in acne, scars, lines & wrinkles, dry skin, and rosacea.

Acne can be socially embarrassing and cause you to lose faith in your ability to maintain healthy and clear skin. The good news is that you can control acne. You can manage acne so that it becomes inactive and eruptions virtually never occur. Your skin can stay calm and smoothed and be free of blemishes with Botox treatment.

Most skin scars are flat and leave a trace of the original injury that caused them. The time it takes this redness to split might however, range from a few days to a few years.

Lines and wrinkles are signs of aging and there is no way to entirely avoid them. As we grow older, our skin becomes thinner and drier. Weakened collagen makes the skin less elastic. Static wrinkles begin to appear. The rate of intrinsic aging occurs at a variable, genetically determined rate; the process is often first noticeable between the ages of 30 and 35.
One of the most common skin conditions that may be affecting you is dry skin. You can have dry skin all over your body or you may just have patches of dry skin in certain spots. Although mild dry skin is not medically harmful it can become quite uncomfortable and annoying to deal with. In extreme cases, some areas of the skin can become scaly or cracked, a condition that definitely needs to be dealt with. No matter how mild or severe your dry skin is there are numerous ways to treat and prevent it.

Rosacea is a life-long disease that affects the facial skin. This condition is recognised by the occurrence of a redness or ruddiness to the skin especially in the areas of the forehead, cheeks, nose and chin. Although the condition is chronic, most patients do not suffer from the symptoms all of the time. In fact, the condition is known to come and go in spurts of flare-ups and remissions. Although there is no cure for rosacea, there are treatment options available that can help keep the condition under control. Along with medical treatment, most patients can also benefit from the instruction of coping skills. Since the disease produces symptoms that affect the face, many patients also suffer from lowered self-esteem, reduced self-confidence and embarrassment.

All the above conditions and many other skin problems could be treated with Botox. Speak to our Dermatologist today and get that younger looking, wrinkle free and glowing skin. Botox works to relax the contraction of muscles by blocking nerve impulses. The result is muscles that can no longer contract, and so the wrinkles relax and soften. It usually takes two to four days to see cosmetic improvement and the effects tend to last long.

Botox is the commercial tradename for Botulinum Toxin Type A. Botulinum Toxin is derived from a bacterium called Clostridium Botulinum this is the same bacteria that causes deadly food poisoning – botulism.

When Botulinum Toxin is diluted with saline and injected into muscles, it blocks the transmission between the nerve endings and the surrounding muscle fibres and causes weakness in the muscles, reducing the contractions in the local area. Botox only works on the muscles that have been specifically injected, which leaves the surrounding muscles functioning as normal.

What can Botox be used for?

Botox is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment used typically in people aged 18 to 65 as a muscle relaxant to reduce the appearance of frown lines and wrinkles. It can also be used to reduce excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis) and is also used to treat certain medical Neurological and Ophthalmologic disorders such as Dystonia, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinsons Disease.

It has been proved that Botox is a safe and effective treatment for wrinkles, blocking nerve transmission to temporarily reduce the contractions of the muscles in the face that cause frown lines, and botox injections are becoming increasingly popular to this end.

The Benefits of having Botox

After various areas of the face have been injected with Botox, lines will be considerably reduced. The face will appear smoother, more youthful and more relaxed and frown lines, crow’s feet and neck wrinkles will be softened.

How Botox is performed

Botox is administered by syringe using a very fine micro-needle. The solution is injected into the desired locations of the face. Three to Five injections are required depending on the area of the face and the severity of the lines. The treatment normally takes about 15 minutes. Normal daily activities can be resumed straight away afterwards; this has lead to a trend for these treatments to be undertaken on a lunch hour. Botox normally takes about 2-3 days to begin working and the effects will last for 3-6 months. After this time, as the Botox starts to wear off, the lines will begin to reappear.

There are some risks involved in having Botox such as having an allergic reaction or the effects being too severe causing a surprised look or a permanent frown. However, the effects of Botox are temporary and these sorts of reactions will not last forever. It is also recommended to consult with a doctor before having Botox if breastfeeding or if you are pregnant and also if you have any medical disorders that affect your nerves or muscles.
